La Cancha was born from a simple idea: what would happen if we processed coffee right here at Finca Majahual instead of sending it off to a central mill? What began as an experiment has since become something much more meaningful, both for the coffee and for the community.
We partnered with the local La Cumbre elementary school, which sits in the heart of the farm at Majahual, and transformed its basketball court into a processing site. The school’s teachers and students joined the farm team to help harvest and process the coffee, creating a lot that reflects care, collaboration, and curiosity.
Proceeds from the sale of La Cancha coffees directly support social programs at the school. Over the years, this has meant repairing classrooms, funding medical care through the farm’s clinic, and creating opportunities for young people to see a future in coffee, whether in agriculture, processing, or beyond. This year, the long-serving community nurse retired, and his daughter, a certified nurse, has stepped in to continue the work, supported in part by La Cancha funds.
The coffee itself is as vibrant as the project behind it: bright, zesty, and full of life. La Cancha captures what we believe at Majahual: great coffee can create lasting, positive change when it stays connected to the people who grow it.
