A Taste of Edinburgh with Cafēn!
January Featured Roaster
Cafēn is a new roastery and brew bar based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They roast light and intentionally to let origin, varietal, and process come through - chasing clarity, sweetness, and a distinctive character in each cup. You will find them in our Rareglow subscription along with our Two Bag Discovery subscription.
"At cafēn we really value connection and relationships, so we work closely with producers to foster long-term partnerships and to highlight their stories alongside the coffees they produce."
Edinburgh is a charming and unique city filled with history, natural landscapes, and great people. From architectural gems to trendy restaurants and cafes, there is always something to see and enjoy.
"With an established and ever-growing coffee scene, Edinburgh has been the ideal place to launch cafēn. The reception of our brand and product has been incredible. At our brew bar on 44 Dundas street, there is a real sense of community with locals, while allowing us to showcase our coffees with people who come to visit Edinburgh from all over the world."
Edinburgh is a vibrant city with a calm heart - a slower rhythm that invites connection.
"That unhurried pace shapes how we serve, how we design, and how we taste: less noise, more clarity, and space for the cup to speak. This is also reflected in our minimalist style - from our brew bar to our packaging, we aim to evoke the stillness and sense of connection that comes from truly enjoying a good cup of coffee. Our roasting is an extension of this approach - we roast lightly to reveal each coffee’s distinct character and honor the work at origin, connecting you to our partner producers and their lots in the most unfiltered and authentic way."

Together with Cafēn, we bring you two Colombian coffees, two ways of seeing flavor. The Rareglow this month from Edinson Argote's natural geisha shows what careful processing can unlock; Paola Trujillo’s washed sidra lets place and varietal speak. Together, they invite you to taste process and terroir side by side.
The Rareglow is Juicy, expressive and complex: banana-candy cake, ripe cherry, orange-blossom florals, tropical sweetness, and a long finish. Layered and memorable.
The Paola Trujillo is an exceptional sidra with mouth-watering juiciness and lots of clarity: pear and mandarin brightness; apple-blossom and jasmine-honeysuckle lift; and a caramel sweetness tying it all together.
"Process x terroir is our focus this month. Edinson’s geisha is a glimpse into innovative fermentation and precise control in processing - showing how these methods can shape texture, aromatics, and overall expression of the cup. By contrast, Paola’s washed sidra demonstrates how a traditional washed approach applied to a unique varietal can shape what you taste in the cup: meticulous execution that highlights varietal character and terroir with clarity. Together, they trace two distinct paths to flavor."
"On people: Every coffee here carries the work of producers we know by name and work closely with. Our aim is to connect you to them - through the stories, and most of all, through what’s in your cup.
Our story: It all started from a passion of brewing at home - in April 2024, those cumulative years converged into a clear idea: cafēn. From there, the right people kept appearing at the right time, including how we met the Dayglow team. Dayglow had sent us samples just as we shipped ours to them. We serendipitously met some of their team at the cafēn brew bar in Edinburgh. After inviting them behind the bar to brew, then to the roastery to cup the next day, we found out that the team in the US had our samples in hand. One conversation led to another, and now we get to share these coffees with you. Right people, right time.
Hope you enjoy drinking these coffees as much as we’ve loved bringing them to you - thanks to every person along the way that has made it possible, and to you at home for making it real with each cup."
