Five Elephant is a coffee roastery, bakery, and small group of four cafés based in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 2010, they are dedicated and focus on sustainable sourcing, ethical practices, and meticulous roasting. Five Elephant collaborates with producers who are committed to environmental regeneration and invested in their community. From single-origin coffees to limited edition releases, they celebrate the diversity of terroirs and varietals that honor the legacy of generations past and those yet to come.

Berlin encourages curiosity and experimentation, and that has shaped our approach from the beginning. We’re inspired by the city’s mix of cultures and ideas, but we also appreciate its honesty. Over the years we see that Berliners value authenticity over hype. That’s why we focus on roasting coffees that speak for themselves: environmentally conscious, traceable, and true to origin.

"Our featured coffee this time is Tadese Teko. This washed lot comes from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, more accurately from Tadese's eight-hectare farm, a size notably larger than the regional average. This coffee is part of a Single Farmer Project, a structure designed to provide traceability and market access for individual Ethiopian producers. While most coffees processed at the nearby washing station are blended from hundreds of smallholder deliveries, this release remains fully traceable to Tadese’s farm alone. It offers a rare opportunity to experience the work of one producer, processed with consistency and integrity at one of the region’s most respected stations. This lot offers a delicate and layered profile, opening with apricot, followed by jasmine, a hint of earl grey tea, and a sweetness reminiscent of bergamot. A citrus acidity brings lift and clarity, while the finish reveals soft, floral or fruit character depending on the brew method."

Every coffee we roast is guided by our commitment to traceability, sustainability, and respect for terroir. We believe great coffee should reflect both place and people, the landscape it grows in and the care it’s given. We find this lot to be bright, floral, and sweet, a true representation of Tadese's craftsmanship and nature’s generosity.
