Despite simple equipment, minimal infrastructure, and hardly any governmental support for farmers, there are some amazing coffees being produced in Peru. Sadly, most of the quality lots are used to create regional blends and are sold for extremely low prices. Producers are not paid for quality, so their investment in improving the infrastructure and processing practices on their farms is minimal. Fortunately things are changing!
This coffee was produced by Victoria Ramos and her farm is located very close to the Ecuadorean border in San Ignacio. This area has enormous potential for producing quality coffee, but most of the farmers here come from other crops such as sugar cane, or they are used to more traditional coffee farming practices. This is our first year buying from Victoria and this lot is certified organic.
