This small, single variety Batian peaberry separation from Kiaria Washing Station, which is operated by the Kiaria Farmers Cooperative Society in Kiambu blew us away on the cupping table. It is the first single variety Batian we have worked with. Kiaria is located less than 50 km northwest of Nairobi. Sadly, coffee production in this area decreases every year as Nairobi grows outwards. At the same time, Kiaria FCS continues to attract new members. This is in large part due to their investments in community infrastructure, water, education, and electricity.
