A revived coffee scene in the Tarime highlands, building on a storied past: sweet cranberry & syrupy texture.

Revived coffee scene.

Close to the Kenyan border lies Tarime, a small municipality with a washing station serving nearby coffee farmers. The farms in the area were neglected from 2017 to 2019 due to regulatory changes that caused uncertainty.

Four years ago, an effort was made to revive the area due to its previous history of producing high-quality coffees. This project focused on introducing better production practices and paying higher premiums to reward quality.

This lot was a standout on the cupping table, with prominent cranberry sweetness & syrupy texture.

The Producer

Tanzania is a large and diverse country in East Africa, both linguistically, culturally, and geographically. Robusta was introduced to Tanzania in the 16th century from modern-day Ethiopia, and later in the 19th century, Arabica was introduced.

This lot underwent a natural process, which is common for the area. Once the cherries have been processed at the wet mill, they are shipped to Moshi for hulling, sorting, grading, and packing.
