While in the past Nensebo was considered to be a part of Sidamo, a major coffee-producing region, it is increasingly viewed nowadays as a stand-alone sub-region. Gora Kone, a mill in Nensebo, has played a role in putting Nensebo on the Ethiopian coffee map: most recently, a lot from Gora Kone passed to the finals of 2020 Cup of Excellence.
The Gora Kone washing station is situated in the Arsi region on the banks of the Nensebo river, next to the village of Werka. The station buys harvest from 700 to 800 coffee smallholders. At these family farms, 3 hectares per farm on average, you find wanza and acacia trees that shade their coffee shrub. Cherries are handpicked between November and January and delivered to Gora Kone washing station.
