Like all our coffees, Mahembe has a story. This takes place in western Rwanda, in the Nyamasheke region. It is there, between the shores of Lake Kivu and the rainforest of Nyungwe, that this red bourbon grows. There also grew up Justin Musabyimana. After fleeing the genocide, he decided to take over the family business and in 2008 founded the Mahembe washing station where this coffee is washed. He works there with more than 500 small producers from the surrounding area whose farms culminate at 2100m. The combination of soils, climate, altitude and the quality of Justin's work make Mahembe a coffee with a unique terroir, which tastes like nowhere else in Rwanda.
